A Frederick Where Housing Works for Everyone

Housing is the foundation of a healthy, thriving community — but right now, too many of our neighbors are being left behind.
I’m a renter — just like 41% of people in our city. I’m a mom — like nearly a third of Frederick households. And yes, I’m still paying off student loans — like many of our residents under 45. The city needs to be affordable for people like me: teachers, service providers, public safety personnel, and others. We serve the city; we should be able to live in it.
Unfortunately, Frederick is stuck. Planning recommendations are ignored, and developments that are meant to be affordable often aren’t. It’s time for a new vision.
Moving Frederick Forward
· Affordable Options: We need more duplexes, triplexes, and accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to give families real choices.
· Closing Loopholes: Developers should not be able to pay a fee to bypass affordable housing requirements.
· Smart Growth: Regulations should support housing that works for everyone in Frederick, not just a few.
Why It Matters
When people can find affordable homes in their
own community, they stay and invest in it. Families thrive, neighborhoods grow stronger, and Frederick becomes a place where everyone belongs — not just those who can afford the highest prices.
