Adult day programs such as Daybreak and St. Ann’s exist in Frederick and play a key role for older adults who need health monitoring, structured activity, social interaction, and caregiver respite. Government and nonprofit organizations also support community-based services and gap-filling aid. The continued need is clear, particularly for low-income and vulnerable populations, making awareness and expansion of these services a priority.
Frederick deserves creative solutions to meet the needs of our growing community. I support the development of intergenerational care centers—shared spaces where children and older adults are cared for in the same facility. These centers improve access to childcare, reduce social isolation among seniors, and build stronger, more connected neighborhoods.
To make this possible, I will:
Push for zoning changes to allow these facilities in more parts of the city
Advocate for partnerships with nonprofits and local developers
Support the use of city-owned buildings or vacant spaces for pilot programs
Work with state agencies to remove barriers to licensing and funding
By bringing generations together, we can care for more residents with fewer resources—and build a more compassionate, efficient city in the process.
Frederick’s older adults deserve dignity, connection, and care — not isolation or limited options. By expanding day programs and embracing intergenerational centers, we can create a city that honors seniors, supports caregivers, and builds stronger neighborhoods. As your At-Large City Councilmember, I will push for innovative solutions that meet the needs of both today’s families and tomorrow’s.
